Origins of and basis for development of an Environmental Management Instrument for Atlantis
The City of Cape Town (CCT) has eight (8) planning districts, one of which is Blaauwberg, within which the subject area, Atlantis, is located (Appendix 5: Map 3). Integrated Spatial Development Plans and Environmental Management Frameworks were first developed for each of these districts in 20121. These have been updated and revised so that they are now Integrated Spatial Development and Environmental Management Frameworks (SDF/EMFs). The 2012 and the 2021 updated Integrated SDF/EMF for the Blaauwberg District, along with the other CCT districts, support policies and incentives to stimulate economic development in desirable areas, with the Atlantis Industrial Area being recognised as a Development Focus area2.
